COVID Update - Wednesday, January 5, 2022

Published: 5th January 2022

The North West Hospital and Health Service (North West HHS) has confirmed a total of 51 active COVID-19 cases in the North West region as of 12pm Wednesday 5 January 2022.

Two cases are in Cloncurry, four on Mornington Island, two in Townsville Hospital and the remaining cases in Mount Isa. All positive cases are receiving clinical support as required with those in the community under the clinical management of the North Queensland Virtual Ward.

Community members are reminded to check the dedicated Queensland Health COVID-19 website for information, alerts, resources and updates.

Given widespread transmission of COVID-19, community members are strongly urged to consider any movement through the Queensland community as a risk for infection. Ensure social distancing is maintained, perform regular hand hygiene and monitor for symptoms.

The Buchanan Park drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic is currently open daily from 9am until 12pm with specific focus on those with COVID-19 symptoms. This helps to identify COVID-19 cases and reduce the spread in the community. Those requiring testing should remain in their car and follow the direction of staff members.

The North West HHS COVID-19 vaccination centre at the Mount Isa Civic Centre on West Street is open Thursday 6 January 2022 from 1.30pm to 8pm, in line with Thursday night shopping, and on Friday 7 January 2022 from 9am to 4pm.

It is essential that all community members maintain social distancing, practise good hygiene, wear a face mask where required and get the COVID-19 vaccination.

North West residents are encouraged to call 134 COVID (13 42 68) with any concerns and are urged to regularly check the Queensland Health website for more information and possible exposure locations.
