COVID-19 Update - 43 active cases in Mount Isa

Published: 5th January 2022

The North West Hospital and Health Service (North West HHS) has confirmed a total of 49 active COVID-19 cases in the North West region as of 12pm Tuesday 4 January 2022.

There are 2 cases in Cloncurry, 4 cases in Mornington Island and the remaining cases are in Mount Isa.

The positive cases from Mornington Island travelled from Cairns on 3 January and proceeded to get tested. There is minimal concern given the traveller’s advice of limited contact within the community.

The patients are commended for getting tested given the symptoms they had and isolating to keep the community safe.

A rapid response team has been deployed to Mornington Island to support local staff and the community. All positive cases are receiving clinical support as required. Two of the active cases are receiving clinical support in Townsville Hospital, while the others are being managed under the North Queensland Virtual Ward, which allows positive cases to remain in their home while continuing to access clinical information and support.

From 31 December 2021, Queensland Health is only notifying of major outbreak venues or super-spreader events in Queensland.

Exposure sites are no longer routinely listed in Queensland given widespread transmission of COVID-19 throughout metropolitan, regional and remote areas of the State.

Community members are reminded to check the dedicated Queensland Health COVID-19 website for information, alerts, resources and updates.

Given widespread transmission of COVID-19, community members are reminded to consider any movement through the Queensland community as a risk for COVID-19 infection. Make sure social distancing is maintained, perform regular hand hygiene, monitor for symptoms and get tested if you develop any symptoms.

The Buchanan Park drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic is currently open daily from 9am until 1pm. Community members should remain in their car and follow the direction of staff members who are there to provide assistance.

The North West HHS COVID-19 vaccination centre at the Mount Isa Civic Centre in West Street is currently open daily from 9am until 4.30pm.

North West residents are encouraged to call 134 COVID (13 42 68) with any concerns and are urged to regularly check the Queensland Health website for more information and possible exposure locations.
