Telstra Hill Community Feedback Received
Published on 27 February 2025
Council has officially received community feedback about Telstra Hill, with the majority of respondents wanting structures such as benches, tables, shade covers and barbecues built at the site, as well as a smoothed road surface and new walking paths.
The Telstra Hill Community Engagement Survey was available to the community from December 5, 2024, to January 18, 2025, and consisted of 14 questions related to Telstra Hill and what people would like to see happen there. It received 181 responses in total.
The feedback obtained from the survey will help Council understand community wants and determine the next phase of works for the Telstra Hill easement.
Most respondents said they spent 30 minutes to an hour at Telstra Hill, and visited it weekly. They primarily use it to walk or run, enjoy nature, relax, or visit with friends and family.
Feedback about the Telstra Hill Upgrade Project Stage 1 works – which were completed in November 2024 and comprised the upgrade and resealing of a section of road from the Telstra Hill entrance and the construction of a new carpark – was generally positive.
Respondents would also like to see goat tracks/paths with steps, and road infrastructure to the top of the hill created at the site.
The community feedback report was presented to, and accepted by, Council at its February Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday, February 26.
At the meeting, Councillor Travis Crowther said it was pleasing to see the good and consistent feedback received.
"Mayor MacRae likes taking a lot of visitors to the city up there to showcase it, and their comments are always about the views. So it could be a really good asset for the community, both visitors and residents alike," Cr Crowther said.
Deputy Mayor Kim Coghlan thanked the public for taking part and providing feedback, as it was an important part of Council applying for grants for the project.
