Lake Moondarra

Lake Moondarra is the primary water source for the city of Mount Isa.

The Mount Isa Water Board (MIWB) is responsible for the supply of quality bulk water to industrial customers and Mount Isa City Council (MICC).

MIWB is responsible for storing and treating bulk water for the region, overlooking the supply of water from Lake Moondarra and pumping from Lake Julius when required.

In accordance with s161 of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008, Council amended the Mount Isa City Declared Service Areas for water reticulation on 21 July 2021.

In accordance with s161 of the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008, Council reconfirmed the Mount Isa City Declared Service Areas for sewerage reticulation on 21 July 2021.

Camooweal

MICC is responsible for providing water supply services to the Camooweal area.

Water is pumped from two sub-artesian bores which are then injected with chlorine for disinfection before continuing on to the town reticulation. Monthly testing is conducted to monitor the quality of the drinking water through the entire supply network.

It is our job to ensure that the water that pours from your taps meets the requirements of the Public Health Regulations and Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Drinking Water Quality Management and Service Provider Performance Reports 

Council is operating under an approved Drinking Water Quality Management Plan. Its purpose is to protect public health through the identification and minimisation of public health-related risks associated with drinking water. Additionally, we report on a range of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) under the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008 and makes this information available to the community.

Infrastructure Plan

The Local Government Infrastructure Plan (‘the LGIP’) is adopted to:

• integrate infrastructure planning with the land use planning identified in Council’s planning scheme;
• provide transparency regarding Council’s intentions for the provision of trunk infrastructure for the Region;
• ensure that trunk infrastructure is planned and provided in an efficient and orderly manner; and

provide a basis for the imposition of conditions about infrastructure on development approvals upon development.

Water Restrictions

They are part of the water conservation strategy to ensure that we adopt sustainable water use practices as part of our normal way of life. Restrictions are introduced in response to a drought or other temporary water shortage events.
