My Bin Day
Introduction of Residential Recycling Services (Two-Bin System)
From December 2024, Mount Isa City Council introduced a new 240L yellow recycling bin to help reduce landfill waste and create a valuable recycling stream.
Key details:
- Yellow-lid recycling bins (240L) will be collected fortnightly.
- Red-lid waste bins (general waste) will be collected weekly.
Collection Schedule
- Check the map below to see if your yellow bin will be collected the week of 9 December or the week of 16 December. When you receive your yellow bin, you will see a sticker on the left side. Here, you will find your new day of collection and what week it will be collected on. You will also find a starter kit inside, including a calendar, flyer, and helpful materials to get started.
- Bins will always be collected on the same day of the week. For example, if your collection day is Tuesday, week 1, the red bin will be collected every Tuesday, and the yellow bin will be collected every two weeks, starting Tuesday 10 December.

Two-Bin System
Kerbside general waste (red lid wheelie) bins from properties within Mount Isa City are collected by J.J. Richards & Sons Pty Ltd on behalf of Mount Isa City Council.
Wheelie bins have a serial number and are assigned to street addresses and can be traced by this number. Please ensure that if you sell the property or move to another address, your wheelie bin remains at the address it is registered to.
What goes in each bin?
Knowing which items can go in your yellow-lid bin will help make sure we’re recycling as much as we can and recycling correctly.
Recycling helps reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfill, which is good for the environment and the community. It also creates jobs and contributes to economic growth.
